K-3 Enrichment:

K-3 Enrichment classes kicked the new year off studying about winter. We read the book “Sneezy the Snowman” by Maureen Wright. They spent time decorating snowmen which was only fitting for the season! Next, in the month of February they studied the groundhog. The students learned all about this fascinating creature. Then we discussed Groundhog’s Day and they were able to make predictions as to whether the groundhog would see his shadow. He did see it causing us to have six more weeks of winter. February was a jammed pack month. We discussed President’s Day and what it meant. The students chose to decorate either George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. Finally, the students read the story “How to Catch a Leprechaun” by Adam Wallace. The story was about a tricky little leprechaun that played tricks on young boys and girls. They tried to capture him to get his pot of gold. The students worked with their families to create leprechaun traps! Overall, there were forty traps made. The traps were featured in the “Star Herald” along with the contest winners.

4th-8th Pull-Out:

The students began STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects in January. They used materials that were donated to complete this assignment. Students made everything from Tiny Homes to Zip Lines. Each completed STEM project was displayed during Parent Teacher Conferences. After the completion of the STEM assignment, each will be tested to see if their products can withstand requirements. If projects fail the test, the students will make improvements on their products.

The 4th-6th graders participated in the Northeast Arkansas Educational Cooperative’s Chess Tournament on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. The team had a great day; and one of our players, Jordan Haney, brought home a trophy for winning 4 out 5 games. The players enjoyed lunch at Subway in Walnut Ridge. The owner gave them all free cookies for dessert.

Seventh and eighth grade Junior High Quiz Bowl Team competed in a virtual competition on Tuesday, February 16, 2022. Mrs. Karla Vandergriff was their coach for the event. The students spent the afternoon in the High School Library answering questions and competing against other schools in the cooperative area.
